Dear EBC Family,
Last night in our members meeting, I shared from Zephaniah 3:2. In this verse, God describes the city of Jerusalem like this: "She listens to no voice; she accepts no correction."
There are not many things that I would rather not have said about me than this. Can you imagine having this written on your tombstone? Can you imagine hearing God describe you this way when you stand before His judgment seat? Can you imagine this being the lasting memory that people have of you?
This verse has personally convicted me, and it has made me more than ever want to be slow to speak and quick to listen. Specifically, it has made me want to have an even more tender heart towards God's Word. When God's Word confronts my thinking, I want to be willing to listen to God and receive correction from Him. I also want to be open to correction from my brother's and sisters in Christ. May we be a church that is willing to listen and ready to receive correction rather than stubbornly going our own way.
Sunday Worship Guide
Sunday morning worship is a Saturday night decision! One of the best ways to get the most out of our time together in corporate worship is to come prepared, going to bed early on Saturday night, and by reviewing the sermon text, our song list, and our responsive readings. To help you prepare for Sunday worship, I've provided each element of our worship below for your review prior to Sunday.
- Sermon Text - Ephesians 4:11-16
- Song List
- Responsive Reading
- Confession of Sin
- Leader: "For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it. (James 2:10)
- All: “O Lord, even a single sin makes us guilty of breaking the whole law. Have mercy on us!”
- Assurance of Pardon
- Leader: "He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so fare does he remove our transgressions from us." (Psalm 103:10-12)
- All: “Father, there is no love that can separate us from your love in Christ! Thank you for your great salvation!”
